The Karelian Isthmus / Privilege of Evil

xhrl_ The EP from 1991 is grittier, darker & faster than 1992's more melodic DM on the LP. On the EP there are brief overtones of melodic composition; while Amorphis peaks later on the LP, the EP remains a favourite for its lack of artifice; leaving a direct, visceral charge in the emotions of the DM. With a beautiful aesthetic, the LP of Amorphis moves fluidly, with disjointed song structures marked by distinctive riffs & bridges so as to make this DM very unique. Tritone riff salad! Superb. Favorite track: Exile Of The Sons Of Uisliu.

about

With feral ferocity Finland's Amorphis emerged from Scandinavia's renowned death metal scene in the early nineties as contenders for world domination. Their debut release The Karelian Isthmus is a crushing crusade of majestically moving atmospheric death metal. Top-notch Sunlight Studios production and fantastic cover artwork, courtesy of Miran Kim, dramatically realized the powerful medieval theme of the record. The Karelian Isthmus has been remastered, repackaged, and features six bonus tracks (the Privilege of Evil EP)!
